SUMMARY:Launching a Digital Commons for the HSS: DHSI
DESCRIPTION:Launching a Digital Commons for the Humanities and Social Sciences: DHSI provides academic researchers, information professionals, administrators, students, and members of the interested public with the opportunity to explore how digital research commons can transform scholarly communication, publication, and collaboration.\n\nFeatured panelists Alyssa Arbuckle (University of Victoria), Kim Martin (University of Guelph), and John Maxwell (Simon Fraser University) will discuss related issues, such as how digital research commons—and research infrastructure more generally—can help advance open, social scholarship in ways that speak to the needs of our communities.\n\nParticipants will also gain hands-on experience and training on the not-for-profit, academic-run Canadian Humanities and Social Sciences Commons (hsscommons.ca). This digital research commons is a hub for open social scholarship, combining elements of social network sites, tools and platforms for collaboration, and institutional repositories to serve the linguistically, geographically, and culturally diverse community of HSS researchers in Canada and beyond.\n\nTo register for this event, please visit: https://events.eply.com/DHSI-2022-Online-Edition-Registration.

SUMMARY:Launching a Digital Commons for the HSS: INKE Partnership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The first event in the Launching a Digital Commons for the Humanities and Social Sciences series took place online on January 24, 2022, from 8.45am-12.30pm PST (Victoria). It was intended for researchers, librarians, academic administrators, information and technology professionals, students, and emerging scholars. Participants discussed issues relevant to open digital commons such as the Canadian Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Commons (hsscommons.ca)–an in-development, national-scale, bilingual (French and English) network.\n\nThe Canadian HSS Commons fosters an open environment for Canadian researchers to share, access, re-purpose, and develop scholarly projects, publications, educational resources, data, and tools. It includes a subject repository for open access publications that assigns digital object identifiers upon upload and follows FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) guidelines for data management; a project development environment that can integrate with Google Drive, Dropbox, or GitHub; individual user profiles, with federated login/identity authorization, including with ORCID; blogging capabilities; subject interest groups; tools to facilitate member interactions (e.g., profile building, and messaging); and more.\n\nTo learn more about the Launching a Digital Commons for the Humanities and Social Sciences, please visit the project pages for our Congress (May 12, 2022) and Digital Humanities Summer Institute (June 9, 2022) events.
